Set the wayback machine to the early 80's, and my first D&D group. We'd finished an adventure, and I suggested we get together, in character, at a "tavern", just like our characters would. We all brought food, and my contribution was a taco bar and margaritas made from a bar recipe a bartender friend had given me. (It was at my place.) The margarita recipe is very smooth and on the sweet side, and you can drink quite a bit before it really registers that you've been consuming a neurotoxin...
Dale, who'd been protesting that there couldn't really be alcohol in them because he couldn't taste it, tried to stand up... and his feet wouldn't cooperate. Insisting that he couldn't be wrong, he claimed that while he'd been drinking a Viking had sneaked in and clubbed him in the back of the head, which was why he couldn't stand. Thus, they were christened Viking Margaritas. I take them to many adult celebrations, among them gatherings of the denizens of the Vampyres mailing list (known as Vampfests), which is where Sara had them.
Viking Margaritas
1 lg can of lemonade
1 can of limeade (the little can)
Decent brand of tequila
triple sec (at least a pint)
lime juice to taste
kosher salt for rim of glass
In a 1/2 gallon pitcher, combine lemonade and limeade. Fill large lemonade can with tequila and add. Fill small limeade can with triple sec and add. Add 1-2 cans of water (each size - to taste). Finish with lime juice to taste. Stir till blended. Sample often.
Serve on the rocks in salt rimmed glass with a wedge of lime. Don't plan to drive -- or even walk -- much afterward.
